What it includes
-
Assess
We’ll visit your yard to see if it’s a good fit for a hive and help you pick the perfect spot—safe for both you and the bees. While gardeners often have a special love for pollinators, you don’t need a garden to host a hive—bees can forage up to 3 miles from their home! All we need is about an 8x12 foot area of undisturbed space.
Our honey bees are gentle by nature and typically only sting when they feel threatened. A great host family will be comfortable having bees around (no swatting!), will avoid using machinery too close to the hive, and will commit to keeping their yard pesticide-free.
-
Install
We’ll work with you to create a hive design you’ll love—whether you want to paint it yourself, let us handle it, or hand over the brushes to your kids (our favorite option!). We provide everything your hive needs to thrive, including a queen and thousands of hardworking bees. Installation is fun to watch- invite your friends and make a party out of it!
-
Inspect
Based on the season, we’ll stop by weekly or every few weeks to check on the health of your colony, give you updates, and make any necessary adjustments. You can be as involved as you’d like—watch from a distance or suit up and get close to the action!
Things can change quickly inside a hive. If your colony runs into trouble, we guarantee to support and sustain (or even replace the hive, if needed) so you can enjoy the experience without the risk or worry!
-
Harvest
When your colony produces extra honey, we’ll handle the harvest, extraction, and bottling (in gallon glass jars). We’ll bottle in smaller jars and create a private label just for you at an add-on cost!
If your hive doesn’t produce a surplus, don’t worry—we’ll pull honey frames from other thriving hives to make sure you still receive our guarantee- 10lbs of local honey!
